Salisbury Mall, early 1970s

It's Back

It's been a few moments since my last post ... in 2007. This grad school partial-thesis was a building block for something much bigger, but more on that later.

There's a lot of people in Salisbury who still love the Old Mall. Just look on Facebook if you don't believe me. So I'm bringing it back, just for them.

Demolition Update

I'm back from the old mall and the eastern wing is gone! The mall now exists as it did when it was first built in 1968. I had the great fortune today of speaking with the gentleman who is overseeing the demolition and he shared with my father and I a ton of information about the site and process of taking it apart. He told us that his is a first demolition he and his firm have done, which is pretty cool considering the scope of this job.

I noticed a few things today. Looking through the south entrance of the old Hecht Co. building, you can see directly into the mall and the bench and planters outside of the interior entrance are still there! Also, the risers around the center court fountain also appear to still be standing.

Hopefully by next weekend I will have a nice addition to my photo collection, but more on that later.
